When school gives you more than two free days at once during the most hectic year you can remember, jump out of joy! Although time is never enough to do all you want, at least Carla had the chance to go out and take some pictures. As you can see, she's by herself in all of them, except for one in which she appears with a photographer's daughter who took the pictures. The daughter, not the photographer.

Four days are never enough

Going abroad and having the chance to spend four whole days in a city is brilliant. However, time always goes by too quickly when you feel at ease and there are plenty of things to visit. That's what happened to me in Oxford.

Thinking I would have too much time, I looked for interesting addresses on the Internet. I found the kind of vintage shops I don't get to shop at where I live, and wrote their location down. Once in Oxford, I kept procrastinating until it was too late. So it's sad to admit that I could only see Unicorn and other appealing shops from the outside. So, all my excitement about coming back with bags full of relics never came true. I did though WINDOW-shopping. That's all.

Despite having no luck with all the vintage items I planned to buy, I did find lovely shops. One of them, whose name is Northlight, delighted me with many Scandinavian designers' thingies (from home stuff to clothes). I bought a Marimekko bag and socks with the exact same pattern for just 38 pounds. I'll try to post some pictures soon... Some other purchases were: English collocation dictionaries, DVDs, a dress, a body scrub, dark chocolate + orange Harrod's biscuits, presents for my family...

Note to myself: Never again leave your purchases for the very last moment

In our city, high temperatures are unfortunately, too common in summer. That evening was no exception. Carla was trying to fing the perfect shoes to wear at a wedding. She had already bought the dress and finding a pair of peep-toes/sandals that matched seemed much easier than it actally was. After having visited all the shops we have in the city (which are more than a few) and having her feet with a thousand blisters, she found them.

This peep-toes were degined by Pedro del Hierro (a Spanish designer) and were bought at Cortefiel. The heel are quite high (around 12 cm) and they are not made of leather. Have a look at them!

The first one shows how the sunlight reflects on the sea in the way from the beach to the fishing port.

The second one shows the fishing port, a really nice area with typical fish & sea food restaurants.
In the third one you can see both of us laying down on the sand, trying to relax a bit in the morning.

Who said that in Spain it never rains and the sun's continously shining? WRONG! (Fortunately)

Right now we're spending our summer holidays together in Asturias, in the north of Spain and the weather's not hot/sunny enough to go to the beach most of the time.

Tonight the hotel was really busy as there are some famous tennis players and their famous girlfriends staying in. That's why, trying to escape from such a mess of journalists and young fans, we went to a cosy café we came across in the village. The decoration is pretty good as well as the dim lights, but the atmosphere's completely broken when the waiter (a tacky version of David Beckham) appears and asks you what you would like to have in the most impolite way ever imagined.

However, the tea and the white coffee were the perfect choice for a rainy night.

Tribute to Cecilia Sörensen

Long ago, while flicking through a Spanish fashion magazine, an article caught my eye. There was an interview in it that helped the readers to get to know better a Finnish designer that sold her clothes in a shop in Barcelona. Her name is Cecilia Sörensen. She talked a bit about the differences between Spain and Finland. Then, I told my friend Carla about her. She also loved her personal, casual and smart style. After wondering if sending her an e-mail would be right or not we made up our mind and finally sent it. We thought "oh, she might not reply to us, Gaudí Catwalk designers don't seem to waste their time on stuff like that". To our surprise, we were wrong. She quickly replied to our e-mail in a friendly and thankful way. Since then, we keep getting e-mails from her that tell us the news about her shop, her new collections, exhibitions, etc.

Summer house

This is a quite old picture I took near my summer house in a sunny day.

I had found this hand-made knitted cardigan some days ago and wanted so desperately to wear it. My mum knitted it about fifteen years ago (maybe even more). It was going to be a present for my godmother but somehow she doesn't have it. I do! As it's made of wool, it hurts my skin a bit but the pattern is so nice that the fabric is not important at all.

The denim shorts were cut by me from an old pair of long jeans. The underneath T-shirt is a very old one bought at Zara for about 3€.

Simple yet cosy.

The Sun always asks for something bright and colourful. So, when the sun shines, nothing better than a patterned top, denim shorts and comfortable flats.

The earrings are home-made (by Carla) from a children set of wooden pieces. They've been painted with red nail polish and some white details have been added after.

One day a guitar and English language became the perfect vehicles to communicate what poetry and paper sometimes fail to. Russian Red is the name of a lipstick colour and also Lourdes Hernández's artistic name. The fragility and delicacy of her childlike and doll looks match perfectly well with her soothing voice.

Checked shirts are great in lazy days. Checked shirts might make you look slightly masculin. Checked shirts are the perfect excuse to smell roses, create bracelets from vintage pieces and pose... pose with peep-toes and Ray-Ban wayfarers like only a woman like her can!

We were a bit fed up with all those Spanish films in which sex and football are the only subjects in the plot. However, there is always an exception that proves the rule.

Otto and Ana both have names that read the same both ways. But that is only the first coincidence of a big list full of them that accompany the two main characters from the beginning until the end of the film, from their chidhood to their youth. A mixture of melancholy and happiness, tragedy and hope, tears and smiles... that can't leave anyone indifferent.
